We compiled examples of treatments below to demonstrate the options that modern dentistry provides. They cover a broad range from professional dental cleaning to surgical therapeutic measures.

Before you look through them, please consider carefully what you would like to see, reflecting on how squeamish you are. The images for implants and bone reconstruction in particular show surgical procedures that might cause negative associations.

We thank all our patients who gave us their written consent to publish these pictures.

Implant video library

Below you will find some examples of how we can use dental implants in a variety of situations. From a single implant placed and restored directly after tooth extraction to the restoration of both jaws in one day. We hope you find this content useful if you have been considering this treatment.

Case 1 - extraction of a central incisor and immediate implant placement

Immediate implants

Dentist: Dr Christian Mehl and dental technician Maria Pongratz, HarderMehl Laboratory Munich, Germany

Most patients feel particulary concerned about having treatment in the anterior area. Having only a temporary removable denture to replace a front tooth and attending the dentist multiple times to restore a single tooth can be inconvenient. That is why we remove infected teeth, clean the infection and place an implant in the same visit, including a fixed temporary restoration. This is a scientifically proven approach, as we have shown in many published scientific articles during more than 15 years of research.

Case 2 - extraction and immediate implant placement and connective tissue graft

Immediate implant and tissue graft

Dentist: Dr Christian Mehl and dental technician Maria Pongratz, HarderMehl Laboratory Munich, Germany

As in case 1 above we again remove the infected tooth, clean the infection and place an implant in the same visit, including a fixed temporary restoration. For the patient it is only one visit and the aesthetic of the gums are preserved as we take a minimally invasive approach. Two months after the surgery the permanent restoration is placed. Hence, our patients only need two, or a maximum of three, visits to restore and replace a frontal incisor.

Case 3 - immediate implant placement

Dental implants despite inflammation: risk or chance?

Dentist: Dr Christian Mehl and Master dental technician Berit Holbl, HarderMehl Dental Laboratory Munich, Germany

In this case we place two implants in a situation where there was nearly no bone left due to a massive inflammation. We build up the bone and place a temporary restoration in a single visit. This treatment is only possible due to extremely accurate planning with the help of a 3D x-ray which is also shown.

Case 4 - upper jaw all-on-4 and lower jaw immediate implants

Can implants be placed despite large inflammations?

Dentist: Dr Christian Mehl and dental technician Gianluigi Melizza, Elena Kalb and Veronika Spirkl, HarderMehl Dental Laboratory Munich, Germany

This is a wonderful example of what modern dentistry can do. We were asked to perform a full mouth restoration and in a five hour operation under sedation we removed the upper jaw teeth, placed immediate implants and placed a screw-retained denture, so that the patient could go home with a brand new set of teeth. In the lower jaw we removed the heavily infected teeth, placed the implants and built up the bone at the same time. Four months later the lower jaw implants were exposed, an impression taken and the implants restored with implant supported bridges and crowns.

Case 5 - immediate implant after cracking a front tooth

Immediate implant and temporary

Dentist: Dr Christian Mehl and dental technician Maria Pongratz, HarderMehl Laboratory Munich, Germany

This video shows how a cracked frontal incisor (due to a fall) is treated with an immediate implant and a temporary restoration.

Aesthetic dentistry video library

Below we have compiled videos from our clinic to show the kind of work we can do in aesthetic dentistry, ranging from a single veneer to correct a misaligned front tooth to a complete smile makeover. Different materials and procedures are shown to help you make the best decision for a long lasting and radiant smile.

Case 1 - correction of misaligned front teeth

Add-on / non-preparation veneers

Dentist: Dr Christian Mehl and dental technician Maria Pongratz, HarderMehl Laboratory Munich, Germany

Many of our patients are rightly wary about sacrificing healthy tooth tissue in order to improve their smile. With so called "non-preparation veneers" or "non-prep veneers" we can get around removing too much of the healthy tooth substance by producing ultra-thin ceramic veneers which are bonded to the healty tooth substance. Additionally, small aesthetic composite fillings can also be used to correct minor aesthetical problems.

Case 2 - restoring natural aesthetics

Renewing a smile with a congenitally missing front tooth

Dentist: Dr Christian Mehl and dental technician Gianluigi Melizza, HarderMehl Dental Laboratory Munich, Germany

In this case the right central incisor was missing and a lateral incisor was taking its place. The patient did not want to have orthodontics and/or an implant. The solution was a soft tissue graft and modelling the gums with a temporary restoration. Finally, an all-ceramic crown was placed to replicate the left central incisor.

Case 3 - the importance of a great technician

Replacing bad front crowns

Dentist: Dr Christian Mehl and dental technician Gianluigi Melizza, HarderMehl Dental Laboratory Munich, Germany

The final aesthetic result you will see does not only depend on the dentist. A great dental technician is an artist who enables the dentist to replicate nature. The difference between a mediocre technician and a great dental technician is demonstrated in this case.

Case 4 - using soft tissue grafting

Immediate implant to replace missing front teeth

Dentist: Dr Christian Mehl and Master dental technician Maria Pongratz, HarderMehl Dental Laboratory Munich, Germany

Three things need be in perfect harmony to establish a pleasing aesthetical smile: the facial anatomy, the gum situation and the shape, form, texture and colour of the teeth and their respective interaction. This case shows how soft/connetive tissue grafting can be used to improve the gum situation in order to establish perfect aesthetics.

Full mouth reconstruction video library

The term "full mouth reconstruction" means restoring the entire dentition. From a smile makeover to a complete overhaul of the compromised dentition, below we show cases where we have restored aesthetics and eating function.

For more information about replacing teeth with prosthodontics please click here.

Case 1 - full mouth reconstruction

Full mouth reconstruction and testing the new Trios Scanner

Dentist: Dr Christian Mehl and dental technician Gianluigi Melizza, HarderMehl Dental Laboratory Munich, Germany

In this case we use new technology to restore the entire dentition. From the impression of the prepared teeth using a new digital scanner to the computer-aided designing and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) of the full ceramic crowns, this case shows what modern dentistry looks like.

Case 2 - complete dental restoration in five visits

Full mouth reconstruction of a completely destroyed dentition in five appointments

Dentist: Dr Christian Mehl and Master dental technician Katrin Kramer, HarderMehl Dental Laboratory Munich, Germany

This case shows what can be done with in depth planning and the tools of modern dentistry. After the initial examination and a 3D x-ray the patient underwent surgery under sedation for five hours. We cleaned and treated root canals, filled teeth and placed implants — all in one day. In the subsequent visits we took impressions and finalised the work.

Case 3 - reestablishing a beautiful smile

Restoring a beautiful smile, step by step

Dentist: Dr Christian Mehl and Master dental technician Katrin Kramer, HarderMehl Dental Laboratory Munich, Germany

This case shows that it is relatively easy to analyse a smile and quickly establish what prevents it from being beautiful. We show step by step how a smile can be re-established using Invisalign, plastic gum surgery and of course a great technician.

Adhesive dentistry - Maryland bridges video library

A dental bridge or an implant is not always the best option to restore a missing tooth. For a dental bridge a lot of tooth substance has to be sacrificed, and a dental implant is an invasive procedure. Especially in adolencents both treatments are not viable options. Maryland bridges, or as they are called scientifically "all ceramic resin bonded fixed partial dentures" instead replace teeth using new bonding techniques and all-ceramic materials.

For more information about Maryland bridges please click here.

Case 1

Maryland bridges to replace missing front teeth

Dentist: Dr Christian Mehl and Master dental technician Maria Pongratz, HarderMehl Dental Laboratory Munich, Germany

In this case two congenitally missing front teeth are replaced with all-ceramic Maryland bridges. Both bridges are bonded to the neighboring central incisors using a special adhesive resin cement.

Case 2 - using a Maryland bridge to replace posterior teeth

Closing gaps with Maryland bridges for posterior teeth

Dentist: Dr Christian Mehl and Master dental technician Maria Pongratz, HarderMehl Dental Laboratory Munich, Germany

Maryland bridges can not only be used to replace missing front teeth. In this case the patient did not want to have a conventional bridge or an implant supported restoration because both treatments felt too invasive to her. So we suggested a Maryland bridge-bonded neighbouring tooth — which worked perfectly for her.
